LEVUMA: Antwerp Heritage, Dubai Presence, A Modern Philosophy of Diamonds

Some maisons are born in ateliers. Others are born in families. LEVUMA belongs to the latter, its roots stretching back more than 130 years in Antwerp, the city often called the world’s diamond capital. Founded by Ali Khalil, the maison distils this heritage into a modern philosophy: that jewellery is not simply an adornment but a reflection of intimacy and legacy.

Khalil’s own path mirrors the duality at the heart of LEVUMA. Before entering the world of fine jewellery, he spent over a decade in global finance, advising sovereign wealth funds and central banks for institutions such as Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan, and Goldman Sachs. “Finance taught me discipline, structure, and how to operate on a global scale,” he recalls.

“But jewellery allowed me to translate ambition into beauty. It was not enough to create wealth, I wanted to create meaning.”

That balance of financial precision and creative expression defines LEVUMA today, a maison that speaks both to collectors who see diamonds as stores of value and to aesthetes who regard them as vessels of emotion.

Design as Architecture, Not Ornament

LEVUMA is not concerned with trend-led flourishes. Instead, its design language borrows from architecture: minimalist lines, refined proportions, and tactile details that give weight and presence without excess. Creations such as the Rosée Éternelle necklace and chandelier earrings exemplify this ethos. The necklace, totalling 154 carats with a 10-carat central drop, required more than 600 hours of meticulous work in Antwerp’s ateliers. These are jewels conceived not merely as objects of beauty but as works that might one day sit in museums, heirlooms of precision and heritage.

Other pieces in the maison’s 2025 catalogue include the Radiance necklace, anchored by a 42-carat yellow radiant diamond; the La Rivière de LEVUMA, set with 75 carats of diamonds including a central seven-carat stone; and L’Illustre Émeraude, featuring a 14-carat emerald cut diamond and totalling 156 carats. Each carries LEVUMA’s signature: rarity interpreted through restraint.

Quiet Growth, Global Presence

While Antwerp remains the artisanal heart of LEVUMA, its global presence follows the rhythms of its clientele. Dubai and Riyadh have become cultural anchors for the maison, with Khalil cultivating relationships among royalty, collectors, and cultural figures. Rather than permanent boutiques, LEVUMA favours private salons, curated showcases, and discreet meetings in London townhouses or Gstaad chalets.

This approach reflects a belief that true luxury is relational rather than transactional. It is less about scale than about intimacy, a principle that resonates strongly in the Middle East, where heritage and hospitality often intersect.

Diamonds as Both Art and Value

In an age where diamonds are often framed as alternative investments, LEVUMA does not shy away from acknowledging the financial weight of its stones. Vivid pinks, blues, and yellows of extraordinary saturation, or flawless large white diamonds, often outperform traditional indices. Yet Khalil insists their deeper value lies elsewhere:

“For us, it is not only about rarity or returns. It is about beauty, heritage, and the resonance these stones carry for generations.”

This dual lens has made LEVUMA attractive to ultra-high-net-worth clients who seek pieces that hold both emotional significance and enduring worth.

Recent Milestones

The maison’s quiet profile has not stopped it from achieving moments of visibility. In 2025, Mariah Carey wore the $10 million Rosée Éternelle set, necklace and earrings, at the MTV Video Music Awards, placing LEVUMA alongside the world’s most recognisable stars. That same year, private showcases in Riyadh, Dubai, and Gstaad reinforced its commitment to curated growth.

LEVUMA is at once anchored in Antwerp and attuned to Dubai’s cosmopolitan rhythm. It bridges the old and the new, the measured and the visionary. Its diamonds are not only cut to brilliance but designed to carry stories across generations. In Khalil’s words:

“It was not enough to create wealth. I wanted to create meaning.”
