In a move long-awaited by many, the UAE government has expanded protections for long-term residents holding Golden Visas, unveiling a suite of enhanced consular services that were previously reserved largely for Emirati citizens. The announcements were made during GITEX Global 2025 in Dubai, marking a new chapter in how the UAE supports its valued expatriate community.
What’s New: Assistance Whenever You’re Abroad
At the heart of the new package is a promise of emergency support for Golden Visa holders overseas – including assistance if someone loses or damages their passport, and a mechanism to issue a Return Document within 30 minutes so the holder can return to the UAE.
Complementing this rapid response tool is a 24/7 specialized hotline for Golden Visa holders, through which they can seek advice, aid in crisis situations, or coordinate with UAE embassies abroad.
Another key feature is repatriation and mortality services – in the unfortunate event a visa holder passes away while outside the UAE, authorities will assist families with arrangements to return remains.
What’s more, family members included under Golden Visas – such as spouses and children with valid residence status – will also benefit from these integral services.
A Strategic Step Under the “Year of Community”
This announcement aligns with the UAE’s designation of 2025 as the Year of Community, themed “Hand in Hand.” The government frames the move as part of a broader vision to integrate enhanced services for residents, strengthen institutional synergy, and affirm the country’s reputation as a global hub for talent and innovation.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security) highlighted that this is a first-of-its-kind offering globally.
