Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island Appoints Gaurav Thakur as General Manager

Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island, the exclusive one-island one-resort destination, has appointed Gaurav Thakur as its new general manager. Thakur, a seasoned Hilton leader with over two decades of experience, will oversee all aspects of operations at the luxury property — from wellness and dining to guest experiences and commercial strategy.

Leadership with Global Experience

Thakur’s career spans more than 20 years within Hilton’s luxury portfolio, including Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, and Hilton Hotels & Resorts. He has held senior leadership roles across the UK, India, and the Maldives, playing a pivotal role in the pre-opening and opening of properties such as Conrad Pune, Conrad Bengaluru, and Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi. Most recently, he served as general manager at Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa.

His expertise in pre-opening operations, paired with a track record of driving guest satisfaction and team excellence, makes him well-positioned to lead the ultra-luxury resort on Seychelles’ Platte Island.

A Singular Island Destination

Located 130 kilometers south of Mahé and accessible via private plane from Mahé International Airport, Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island offers 50 private villas ranging from one to five bedrooms. Each villa features a private pool, expansive gardens, and access to the Waldorf Astoria Personal Concierge service.

The resort is home to six dining venues and bars, the Waldorf Astoria Spa, extensive leisure facilities, and a Nature and Wildlife Discovery Centre. These offerings are designed to complement the island’s pristine surroundings, where crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and rich biodiversity create a destination unlike any other in the Seychelles.

Sustainability and Service

In addition to delivering signature Waldorf Astoria service, Thakur has emphasized the resort’s commitment to sustainability. Working closely with environmental managers, marine biologists, and local partners, the resort continues to preserve Platte Island’s natural ecosystem while setting new standards for luxury hospitality.

“Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island is a rare gem offering a truly singular experience,” said Thakur. “I look forward to delivering unforgettable moments for our guests, supported by bespoke concierge services and unparalleled facilities.”

Andreas Lackner, vice president of operations for Sub-Saharan Africa & Indian Ocean at Hilton, added: “We are excited to have Gaurav joining this unique resort that integrates luxury hospitality with the natural beauty of the island. With his expertise, people-focused leadership, and passion for hospitality, we are confident he will continue to position Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island as a benchmark for luxury.”
