Van Cleef & Arpels showcases “Poetry of Time” at Dubai Watch Week 2025

This November, Van Cleef & Arpels brings that art to life at Dubai Watch Week 2025, unveiling Le Temps Poétique, a showcase celebrating the Maison’s century-long pursuit of beauty through precision.

Held at Dubai Mall’s Burj Park from November 19 to 23, the exhibition opens its doors to the public, inviting visitors to experience something unique. It’s not merely a display of watches but a meditation on how time can be felt, seen, and even dreamed.

A Cabinet of Curiosities

In a setting that evokes both atelier and archive, Van Cleef & Arpels has created a contemporary “cabinet of curiosities” which evokes a journey through the evolution of the Maison’s watchmaking savoir-faire. Visitors can witness the delicate alchemy that brings these creations to life: enamel artists, gem-setters, engravers, and watchmakers at work, surrounded by archival sketches and heritage pieces that trace over a century of poetic design.

Each alcove is devoted to one of Van Cleef & Arpels’ timeless themes, love, nature, ballet, and astronomy, revealing how these motifs transcend mere decoration to become emotional signatures. From Lady Arpels Bal des Amoureux to the Pont des Amoureux series, the narrative of time is rewritten through romance, movement, and light.

Mechanical Poetry

Among the highlights is the Lady Arpels Bal des Amoureux Automate, an intricate piece that took four years of research and development. Every half-day, two miniature figures meet on a Parisian bridge in an orchestrated movement so fluid it appears alive. Equally mesmerizing are the Heures Florales watches, where blooms open and close to mark each passing hour – a reinterpretation of Carl von Linné’s “flower clock” theory from 1751.

The Art of Enchantment

The Maison’s Métiers d’Art are also central to the showcase, featuring enamelwork, miniature painting, and engraving performed by artisans who embody generations of skill. In a world often driven by immediacy, their work reminds visitors that time itself can be a luxury.

Among the standout creations is the Perlée Extraordinaire Fruits Enchantés, a masterpiece of façonné enamel developed after sixteen months of research. Each piece is a small universe of colour, light, and movement.

A Celestial Finale

Anchoring the exhibition is the Planétarium Automaton, a kinetic sculpture that captures the cosmic ballet of Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Saturn, each orbiting in real time, 29.5 years for Saturn, 88 days for Mercury. It is a work of astronomical precision and artistic wonder, built from over 11 modules and rare materials including lapis lazuli, jasper, and gold.

As it moves, a rose-gold shooting star glides across the dial to mark the hours, accompanied by the gentle resonance of a fifteen-bell chime. The result is not just a timepiece but a meditation on eternity.

Time, Translated Through Beauty

“Every Van Cleef & Arpels creation is a meeting point between craftsmanship and emotion,” says Catherine Rénier, President and CEO of the Maison. “Our watches don’t measure time – they give it meaning.”
